What DO I need to know about dry needling for tension headache relief?
I treat headaches frequently with chiropractic care and dry needle therapy. Each treatment on their own can have great results, but combining the two therapies is my favorite approach- I see huge changes! A combo visit of dry needle therapy and chiropractic care provides a gentle and restorative approach and yields great results in decreasing both the frequency and intensity of headaches!
The muscles we treat most frequently for headache patients are in the neck, and head (yes, there are muscles in your head between your skull and scalp!) and include the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, splenius crevicis, semispinalis capitius, cervical multifidus, sub occipitials, and occipitals. Depending on the headache pattern and muscle dysfunction I use dry needling in specific spots to help decrease the tension. Gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments then help realign the spine and ensure that the nervous system is functioning optimally.
There’s no reason to suffer with tension headaches, there are so many things that can be done to help!
